Sarcopenia

Sarcopenia is the normal age-related process of muscle fiber loss. Type I muscle fibers support endurance and posture. Type II muscle fibers support strength for heavier loads and speed, as well as older adult functional independence in activities such as going up stairs and standing up from a chair. Resistance training can help slow muscle fiber loss at any age.

For this discussion, we will examine the more microscopic underlying question: “Why do we lose muscle fibers with the aging process? Where do they go?”

case study

Please read the following case study and complete the questions below.

Daniel is a 16 year old boy who is an identical twin. He and his brother Jeff are very close and do most things together. While Daniel excels at sports he believe his brother is much better at most everything. Daniel, his brother, and their two sisters live with their parents in the Midwest. Recently Daniel has been feeling more tired than usual. He thought it was because of his schedule and school work, which he is fairly good at. He gets mostly Bs, but his grades have been slipping of late. One day he fainted while getting ready for a game. His coach called his parents to let them know Daniel was taken to the Emergency Room. While there the doctor decided to admit Daniel to the hospital for observation. At the time he was running a slight fever, his breathing was shallow, and he was sweating. He was also very sleepy and his blood pressure was high. He did have some abnormal laboratory work, but his doctor was not too concerned at present. Daniel also stated that he felt achy.

You are assigned to take care of Daniel today and when you walk into his room, his mother and brother Jeff are there. Daniel appears to be sleeping. In your written assignment, respond to the following questions applying the nursing process:

Assessment: What type of objective and subjective data can you collect with what you know? How will you collect these data? What further evidence do you need?

Analysis and Identification of the Problem: What do you believe Daniel’s problem(s) are? What might be the nursing diagnoses? Use the following for identification.

Planning: Identify two goals and one nursing intervention for each, based on your nursing diagnoses.

While you will not be able to implement or evaluate, how well do you think your nursing interventions might help with Daniel’s care.

  1. What effect do instructions and rules have on schedules of reinforcement?
  2. What happens to rule following when the behavior is not reinforced?
  3. Briefly describe experiment 1. What was the procedure? What were the results?
  4. Briefly describe experiment 2. What was the procedure? What were the results?
  5. Briefly describe experiment 3. What was the procedure? What were the results?
  6. Finally, describe what this article tells us about instructions and rules and how they can influence behavior.

  1. Does human behavior differ from the behavior of other species? Why or why not?
  2. Describe the procedure for experiment 1. What were the different groups and what contingencies were in place for each?
  3. What sources of control were examined in experiment 2? What did this experiment tell us?
  4. What did these studies tell us about rule-governed and contingency-shaped behavior?

What relation does rule-governed behavior have to verbal behavior?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Get assistance from our top rated tutors at Collegly.com ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Develop a comprehensive crime prevention strategy based on the assumptions of that theory.

Select one of the theories covered in Module 1, Module 2, Module 3, Module 4, or Module 5. Then,

1. Develop a comprehensive crime prevention strategy based on the assumptions of that theory.

  • Describe the theory and its assumptions
  • Describe the strategy in depth—what will it entail, who is the target population, where will it be implemented, and who will carry it out
  • Discuss the strategy’s feasibility (note, the strategy must be feasible), potential advantages/disadvantages, and originality
  • Discuss why it would work based on the assumptions of the chosen theory (or, if there are aspects of the theory that the strategy does not consider, how might this impact its effectiveness)

OR

2. Modify an already existing strategy based on your chosen theory

  • Describe the theory and its assumptions
  • Describe the strategy in depth—what does it entail, who is the target population, where it is implemented, and who carries it out
  • Describe your modification in detail
  • Discuss why a modification is necessary, including supporting research evidence and why it may work based on the assumptions of the chosen theory

OR

3. Evaluate an existing strategy or one that has been previously implemented, based on your chosen theory

  • Describe the theory and its assumptions
  • Describe the strategy in depth—what does it entail, who is the target population, where it is implemented, and who carries it out
  • Discuss its effectiveness (strategy evaluation) including  supporting research evidence
  • Discuss why it works or does not work based on the assumptions of the chosen theory (or why it might be less effective if the strategy does not consider important aspects of the theory)
